CanGap Gap Year & Gap Year Alum Scholarships

Official Rules - Spring 2024


THIS CONTEST IS INTENDED FOR CANADIAN CITIZENS, PERMANENT RESIDENTS OF CANADA OR REFUGEES ONLY AND WILL BE INTERPRETED ACCORDING TO CANADIAN LAW


HOW TO ENTER:  To enter the contest you must complete the entry survey and submit your name and email address.   The closing date and time for the scholarship application is 23:59 (EST) on Friday, May 24, 2024 and any entries received after such date and time shall not qualify for the contest.  


NO PURCHASE NECESSARY: No purchase is necessary to apply for the scholarship.


ONLINE PLAY: CanGap accepts no responsibility for entries that are lost, delayed, misdirected or incomplete or cannot be delivered or entered for any technical or other reason. Proof of delivery of the entry is not proof of receipt by CanGap.  In the event of a dispute as to the identity of a recipient based on an email address, the recipient will be deemed to be made by the authorized account holder of the email address at the time of entry.  “Authorized account holder” is the natural person who is assigned an email address by an internet service provided or other organization responsible for assigning email address for the domain associated with the email address in question.  CanGap disclaims liability for any injury or damage to your or any other person's computer relating to or resulting from participation in or downloading any materials in connection with the contest.


SCHOLARSHIP DECISION PROCESS: One (1) scholarships will be given to one (1) winner based on the quality of their applications. The Canadian Gap Year Association staff will be responsible for deciding who will receive the scholarships. 


PRIZES: One (2) prizes of seven hundred and fifty dollars ($750.00) will be awarded. The recipients will be notified by email by June 28, 2024. If any recipient does not respond to CanGap within fourteen (7) days of being notified by email by CanGap, then the winner’s prize will be forfeited and CanGap shall be entitled to select another winner.   The following conditions must be satisfied by the winner before the prize is given to the winner; if the winner does not satisfy all of the foregoing to the satisfaction of CanGap, then CanGap may choose another winner; the winner shall:


(i)                make a sworn statement that he or she participated in a gap year in 2023/2024 (if receiving the Alum Scholarship) or a sworn statement that he or she will be participating in a gap year in 2024/2025 and will not be enrolled in formal post-secondary courses or programs;
(ii)              provide proof of age, citizenship, and residency;
(iii)            submit a detailed financial plan of how the prize will be used before the prize will be released;
(iv)            provide a receipt for the prize to CanGap;
(v)             agree, from July 2024 to February 2025, to complete and deliver to CanGap a 2 video blogs/vlogs with 10 quality photos, which CanGap shall use for promotional purposes; winner shall sign a waiver to provide all legal authorizations necessary for CanGap to use such materials without cost;
(vi)            act as a Gap Year Ambassador on behalf of CanGap for a period of 5 years from the date of receiving the prize.  Commitment includes being featured on cangap.ca and on CanGap’s social media accounts and invitations to participate in virtual and in-person events (compensation and travel provided);
(vii)          be featured on CanGap print, digital and social media as the recipient of the bursary – identified by name and photo;
(viii)        the winner shall agree to use the prize money for personal and professional development expenses and recreational purposes. Higher Education tuition is not an eligible expense.
​(ix)            the winner may be required to take part in promotional activity related to the contest and the winner shall participate in such activity on CanGap’s reasonable request; and  
(x)             the winner consents to the use by CanGap, both before and after the prize is awarded for an unlimited time, of the winner's voice, image, photograph and name for publicity purposes (in any medium, including still photographs and films, and on the internet) and in advertising, marketing or promotional material without additional compensation or prior notice and, in entering the contest, all entrants consent to the same.
 
If a winner rejects their prize or the entry is invalid or in breach of these Official Rules, the winner's prize will be forfeited and CanGap shall be entitled to select another winner.  The prize delivery will be negotiated with the recipient and CanGap based on location and circumstance. The prize is non-exchangeable, non-transferable. 
 
ELIGIBILITY: This contest is open to people aged 17-25 years of age as of June 28, 2024.  Employees or agencies of CanGap and their respective group companies or their respective family members, or anyone else involved in the administration of this contest or the entities involved with it are not eligible to enter the contest.  Parental signature will be required should the winner be under the legal age of majority.
 
GENERAL: By entering this contest participants agree to be bound by these Official Rules and by the decisions of the contest judges which shall be final on all matters relating to this contest.  Only one entry per person. Entries on behalf of another person will not be accepted and joint submissions are not allowed.   CanGap accepts no responsibility for any costs associated with the prize and not specifically included in the prize.  CanGap accepts no responsibility for any outcomes associated with the activities paid for with the scholarship funds.  CanGap accepts no responsibility for any damage, loss, liabilities, injury or disappointment incurred or suffered by you as a result of entering the contest or accepting the prize.  CanGap reserves the right at any time and from time to time to modify or discontinue, temporarily or permanently, this contest with or without prior notice due to reasons outside its control (including, without limitation, in the case of anticipated, suspected or actual fraud). The decision of CanGap in all matters under its control is final and binding and no correspondence will be entered into.  CanGap shall not be liable for any failure to comply with its obligations where the failure is caused by something outside its reasonable control. Such circumstances shall include, but not be limited to, weather conditions, fire, flood, hurricane, strike, industrial dispute, war, hostilities, political unrest, riots, civil commotion, inevitable accidents, supervening legislation or any other circumstances amounting to force majeure.  The contest is subject to all applicable federal, provincial, and municipal laws, and regulations. 
 
PERSONAL INFORMATION: CanGap shall use and take care of any personal information you supply in accordance with all privacy laws.  By entering the contest, you agree to the collection, use, and disclosure of your personal information in order to administer your entry into the contest.
