If you are feeling lost or stuck about which direction to take your career, this episode is for you!
Sarah, career coach and founder of Careergasm, shares totally valuable tips and insight to take the edge off these decisions and get you on the right path to move you forward.
As the founder of Careergasm and author of Careergasm and Career Rookie, Sarah’s purpose is to help people figure out what they want to do with their career and how to find a path they LOVE
And we LOVE her start-up story!
Careergasm stemmed from a breakdown in the middle of a crowded Starbucks. At the time, Sarah was a professor at a business school working on some research (and she HATES conducting research), and thought to herself, she just could not do it anymore. The irony? Sarah was researching and teaching workplace happiness...
Since that Starbucks moment, Sarah has devoted her life to help people:
Quit their job
Help get “unstuck”
Figure out what they actually want to do
And, sort out all of the emotions and stress that comes from not knowing what lies in your horizon.
Careers have changed, and society’s mindset needs to change too!
Over the last few years, the career world has changed significantly, however the idea of a linear career path is still engrained in everyone’s mind.
The truth is, we all have to navigate our careers step by step.
Did you know that:
75% of people go into a different career path than what they went to school for (!).
93% of people change their mind about what they want to do after school (!!).
Changing your mind is normal and a part of life. Oftentimes, people won’t follow their passions or don’t know how to deal with what they want to do because they have the fear of letting loved ones down. But in reality, it is much more important to listen to what your internal voice is telling you vs. the voice of others so you can feel passionate about what you do every single day!
Gappers, Listen Up! Here are things YOU need to do, to get on the right path.
Dabble Dabble Dabble! Your Gap Year = Time to Explore! Explore various fields, industries and hobbies that excite you! You can do this by picking up a part time job, volunteering or conducting your own research.
